Copolyester PETG/PCTG Processing Guide
Dawn Copolyester PETG/PCTG Processing Guide
Copolyester PETG/PCTG products are high-performance polymer materials situated at the top of the polymer material pyramid. Dawn Helf's proprietary patent technology for copolyester materials has filled a technological gap in China. Dawn Helf's copolyester PETG/PCTG materials have received certifications from the FDA and food contact safety. As a new type of resin material, they have unique properties and price advantages in application areas where they replace materials like PC and PMMA.
In this article, we will introduce you to Dawn copolyester's processing guidelines to help you produce better.
1. Injection Molding Machine
You can use a standard three-stage screw injection molding machine, with a recommended compression ratio of 2.5:1 to 3.0:1 and an L/D ratio of 20:1.
The weight of the finished product should be between 30% to 70% of the maximum injection capacity of the injection molding machine.
2. Mold and Product Design Requirements
Mold: The mold should have a good cooling system to shorten the injection cycle and ensure proper ejection of the finished product.
Main Runner: We recommend the single-sided draft angle of the main runner to be 3° to 3.5°, with a main runner length of 50mm to 75mm.
Gate: We suggest the thickness of the edge gate and earless gate should be 50% to 70% of the product wall thickness. The maximum size for a submarine gate should be a diameter of 1.1mm, and the gate size for a three-plate mold should be between 0.75mm and 1.5mm.
Product: The minimum single-sided draft angle of the product should be 2°.
3. Reference Process
Screw Speed: A lower screw speed is recommended to prevent excessive heating of the material. Suggested range: 50–70 RPM.
Cushion Size: A cushion size range of 5–10mm is advised.
Residence Time: The material's residence time in the barrel should be controlled within 5 minutes. If exceeded, the material should be purged before injection.
Back Pressure: Appropriate back pressure enhances material plasticization and aids in venting. The recommended range is 5–10 kg/cm².
Drying: Use a dehumidifying dryer with a dew point of -40°C or lower.
